My favourite books of 2007

I am still working towards my goal of reading 75 books in a year; in 2007 I made it to 63 books, an average of over 5 a month, which I think is an impressive amount. I’ve read 6 books during January and February 2008 a drop in the average to 3 books a month. As I’ve been busy, I’ve wanted to re-read books so I don’t need to think too hard as I read them and I can get plenty of pleasure and comfort from them.
Several books I read in 2007 are on this list of possible rereads and I’m wondering if it is a bit too soon to start them again. Here is a list of my favourite reads of 2007 (in order of reading):
- Camelot’s Honour (Two Ravens Saga)
- The Ring (The Sword, the Ring, and the Chalice, Book 2)
- The Chalice (The Sword, the Ring, and the Chalice, Book 3)
- Veil of Roses
- Green Rider
- First Rider’s Call (Green Rider, Book 2)
- Greatest Knight
- A Sorcerer’s Treason (Isavalta Trilogy)
- Stardust
- The Named (The Guardians of Time Trilogy)
Looking at that list now I’m surprised at the high percentage of books that are fantasy stories. I read and enjoy a wide variety of genres, but my favourites does not reflect that. I will be interested to see if my favourites of 2008 are similar or show a wider variety of genres.

I was so excited to see Kristen Britain on your list - I absolutely loved Green Rider & First Rider’s Call. I bought the third - High King’s Tomb - when it first came out and could not put it down. I think I read the whole thing in a weekend!

I have come to realise that I have outgrown chichlit books and grown more into fantasy/sci fi books now.
5 books a month is impressive. Hell even 3 books a month is brilliant.
I am not a fast ready. I usually take my time reading a book because it takes me a while to digest what I am reading.
In 2007, I only read 11 books. So on average its almost like a book a month. Eeekk…

I have already reread both of those books, in fact I started reading the first rider’s call for the second time as soon as I had finished it. I haven’t read the high king’s tomb yet, I was hoping to get it for Christmas but didn’t so I will probably buy it soon.

I very rarely read chicklit either these days and have actually passed on a lot of those types of books through bookcrossing or bookmooch. I tried to read a wide variety of books, but at the moment fantasy does appear to be my favourite.
It has been suggested that I read too quickly and therefore don’t absorb fully what is written. However I lose myself completely in the story and want to know what happens so much that I have to keep reading.

Could I recommend Eckhart Tolle? He has 2 excelent books in paperback - “The Power of Now” and “A new Earth”, both better than one would expect.

I’m really impressed. I read 3-4 books a month and I thought that was good but goodness, 5 books a month is amazing. Do you read them in sequence or concurrently? I’m not good at reading more than one book at a time.

I am amazed that you can read that many books a month…I am jealous. I can’t wait for the summer when I can read more than a few pages a day. I am currently trying to read two books - The Virgin Lover (Philippa Gregory) and Watching the English (Kate Fox). Hopefully I will be able to pass them onto you soon.

Thank you for the comment. Sometimes I am surprised at how many books I read a month as well, but after a particularly high peak such as 8 or 9 books in a month I will usually have a couple of months of no reading.
I tend to read fiction books one at a time because I completely lose myself in the story, however I may have one or two non fiction books going at the same time.

I think sometimes my reading gets in the way of other things such as sleep; once I start reading a fiction book I often get hooked and can’t put it down.
I finished the Geisha of Gion yesterday, thank you for the book. I’ve already read The Virgin Lover, in fact I read it in Japan.
