My goal for 2013 was to get back into blogging, by posting at least once a month, we may be almost a month into 2014, but I still think there is value in doing a review. Yes I missed a month and I got distracted by events such as the children’s birthdays towards the end of the year, but I believe I’m back.
I published 68 post last year and the only month I missed was March because we didn’t have internet for eight weeks after moving house. I picked up the frequency during the year, but it is sad to see it started falling again towards the end of the year, although it is not a surprise.
Perhaps more importantly my total posts during the year has dramatically increased, and is the second highest in a year since I started the blog.
Again I appear to have had a fairly unfocussed year writing in 19 categories, with many of them having just one post. But equally I think I need to develop some more categories because I definitely don’t view this as a blog about blogging (posts include my monthly reviews and my goodread posts).
Most read posts
Just as during my last review, the most read posts of 2013 were all written several years ago. There is obviously something about these posts that makes them really popular that I can’t seem to reproduce in my recent posts.
- 15 different types of journals to keep (2007)
- Ask advice how to label keyboard keys (2007)
- 13 tips to successful hot desking (2007)
- 23 ideas for the first page of your journal or notebook (2010)
- Day planner download files (2007)
Most popular search terms
But looking at the most common search terms used to find my site it is clear why the posts above are the most popular.
- types of journals
- keyboard keys
- types of journals to keep
- different types of journals
- keyboard letters worn off
Top referring sites
I find it interesting that the majority of referrals are the same as the previous six years, with the addition of Britmums which reflects how I’ve made an effort to connect to other bloggers last year.
Although looking at the figures in different ways, I’m also mentioning Yummymummyreally for the highest average number of pages per referred visit and The Olivers Madhouse and In the Playroom for the longest time each visitor stayed on my site.
Most commented posts
Despite not getting into my popular post list, some of my posts did attract several comments and these were the most popular
- Fascinated by the wood burning stove
- Goodreads #2
- Kitchen dining room or lounge dining room
- 6 year blogging review
- First architect plans; ideas, solutions and questions
And of course, thank you to all the people who made comments on my posts, I really appreciate the time you take to share your thoughts particularly the following five who wrote the most.
Altogether I’m pleased with my blogging last year and hope to build on it during 2014. Again, I’m keen to improve the popularity of my newer posts and get some of them into the most popular list, although I admit I’m not sure how to do this.
Have you done a blog review, what did you learn? Do you have any tips on how I can develop my blog further this year?
