It is the start of half term in our household (at least for my daughter and husband, I’ll be working next week). Although I know children need a break from school, I worry that the break to the learning routine can undo some of what they’ve learnt. I have nothing to base this on as we’re only in Year 1, but I know if I stop doing something it is harder the next time I try. Continue Reading …

Is technology convergence good or bad?
Technology advances every month offering new products and, through technology convergence we’re offered products that combine more and more features into one product. However do these advanced products actually benefit us or are they marketing gimmicks to tempt us to purchase products more often? Contents of my handbag Two things occurred recently that made me think about the technology I carry in my hanadbag, firstly emptying my bag and realising how many gadgets I carry Continue Reading …
Inspiring women, making a #lastingchange in Tanzania
International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world on 8th March; recognising the achievements of women for over 100 years. Tanya, Annie and Penny, the Team Honk founders, are learning about female achievements in Tanzania thanks to Sport Relief. Working with The Gatsby Trust donations have helped created female entrepreneurs leading to lasting change for women, their families and communities and beyond – rippling out #lastingchange in Africa (find out more at the bottom of the post). Back on my bike – Team Honk Relay
Starting is often the hardest part of any activity and Team Honk created the right combination of factors to get me cycling again; a big challenge, raising money for charity and a group of amazing people working together. So on Friday I got back on my bike to help carry the baton between Reading and Oxford as part of the Team Honk relay between Lands End and John O’Groats. The relay route zig zags across Continue Reading …
I’ve forgotten how to be productive
Tasks, there are lots of them; ones we want to do, ones we do for other people and the ones we feel we should do. I’ve worked on improving my productivity for years and used a variety of systems and tricks to help me complete tasks, but none of them are working. I seem to have completely forgotten how to be productive at home. I want to spend time doing the things I want to do and Continue Reading …
Chicken and cashew nuts – slow cooker recipe
Chicken and cashew nuts is our favourite slow cooker recipe and it goes down well with the whole family, plus because it only needs to cook for four hours you don’t need to remember to put it on first thing in the morning. I’m not planning to turn this site into food blog, but decided to share this recipe as it has come up in conversation several times on Twitter. You can find the original recipe Continue Reading …
Complete: textured crochet blanket (1 year)
These posts celebrate completed tasks that have been on my to do list for a long time, and analyse why they were not completed earlier. Textured crochet blanket At a few months old it was clear M liked to snuggle into blankets and when he started showing a fascination with different textures I decided to make him a crochet blanket using wools of different textures. I found a free pattern on Ravelery, but I concentrated so hard Continue Reading …
The working mum’s guilt
Thursday is my day with the children, and it is a busy day with swimming and gymnastics classes. However, at the moment I am on a train to London, in a suit on my way to an important work meeting. I’m lucky that my Mother in law is happy to change the day she looks after the children, so I spent the day with them yesterday and she is looking after them today. And I’m guilt Continue Reading …
Success even if I didn’t finish the cleaning process
Can you only call it a success if you complete the plan? My plan for the weekend was to clean the house using a process I’d found through Pinterest. My checklist suggests I didn’t get very far, but I actually see the weekend as a success. The image doesn’t actually tell the full story, and not just because I forgot to tick wiping the kitchen counters and cabinets. We hadn’t considered the organisation of the Continue Reading …
Back to university
University is harder than I remember; although as I was an undergraduate over 15 years ago maybe it is my memory! I’ve been quiet recently because I’ve been away at University of East Anglia on a course about water security (thank you work). It was a fascinating week, but very tiring as we were kept busy all day and every evening (although some of those were networking in a pub). A lot of the topics Continue Reading …
