My BritMums Live plan and questions

June 13, 2014 by Kate Davis 12 Comments

In a week I’ll be at BritMums Live the biggest blogging and social media event in the UK  with 500 bloggers over two days. It is also the first blogging event I heard about (yes I lived under a rock for my previous 6 years blogging and had no idea there were communities and networks). I bought my ticket almost as soon as they were released and I’m finding it difficult to believe it is Continue Reading …

5 stages to collect information for school scrapbooks

September 2, 2013 by Kate Davis Leave a Comment

With school starting this week there are going to be a lot of milestones and memories to capture. As this is our first time at school I don’t know what to expect, but don’t want to miss anything, so I’ve been collecting ideas on Pinterest (on both my memories and school scrapbook boards). There are so many good ideas, that I feel a bit overwhelmed at doing them all at the start of the year, plus it Continue Reading …

Complete: textured crochet blanket (1 year)

August 27, 2013 by Kate Davis 2 Comments

These posts celebrate completed tasks that have been on my to do list for a long time, and analyse why they were not completed earlier. Textured crochet blanket At a few months old it was clear M liked to snuggle into blankets and when he started showing a fascination with different textures I decided to make him a crochet blanket using wools of different textures. I found a free pattern on Ravelery, but I concentrated so hard Continue Reading …

I’m not ready for school starting

July 10, 2013 by Kate Davis 5 Comments

September is fast approaching and I’m getting the impression many parents are looking forward to their children starting school. But I’m not. I know some of my issue is the unknown, but the key thing for me is I don’t like the idea of changing our current routine. Both children are currently in a nursery five minutes from my work three days a week from 8am to 6pm (the fourth day they spend with Granny). Continue Reading …

Discovering a doll’s personality

July 5, 2013 by Kate Davis Leave a Comment

Within an hour of meeting Millie I knew she liked singing and gymnastics; see the video below. By bedtime I’d been told she liked horse riding and ice skating, and most strangely that most of her friends have moustaches; when I questioned B further on this she said they were boys with stick on moustaches! This interest from B continued over the past week so I also know Millie enjoys playing on the climbing frame Continue Reading …

Accepting my handbag is now like my mother’s

May 28, 2013 by Kate Davis 4 Comments

When I was growing up my Mum’s handbag had a reputation for being full and containing some strange items such as a metal key to tighten tennis nets. For many years I wasn’t a fan of handbags and preferred to use pockets. However, over the weekend when I was packing items to go to the beach I realised having children has had a big impact on what I carry. So as I used to enjoy Continue Reading …

Bank holiday weekend = 2 visits to eye casualty

May 7, 2013 by Kate Davis Leave a Comment

Spring has finally happened in the UK and the forecast for the long weekend was sunny and warm, so we were all off to Dorset with my in-laws. Unfortunately our plans dramatically changed with me taking my husband to eye casualty twice instead. During the week, ED developed swelling across the bridge of his nose which spread below his eyes and across his cheeks. When a fever developed he went to see the local doctor Continue Reading …

New Saturday routine; library, park and cake

April 27, 2013 by Kate Davis Leave a Comment

We’ve only been in our new house for just over two months, but we are already settling into a routine for Saturday mornings, and it is has something for the whole family to enjoy. We start by walking to the village library (based in the old school building) where we can change our books, do some colouring and Beth usually borrows a DVD (recently she’s been choosing Angelina Ballerina).  We then go next door to Continue Reading …

Memories of my mum

July 2, 2012 by Kate Davis 10 Comments

My mum recently died after fighting cancer for 10 months. It came as a shock to everyone in the family because the original diagnosis was very positive. I spoke at her funeral and evening prayers and want to share my memories with people who were not able to attend. An illustrated version of my eulogy I’ve been lucky to have mum as a constant in my life for 34 years. In fact, my first memory Continue Reading …

Complete: baby photo album (3 year duration)

April 30, 2012 by Kate Davis Leave a Comment

I recognised recently that to have more time to spend on things I want I need to either remove, complete or get quicker at my other tasks. Particularly, if I want to make my list shorter (and feel a whole lot better) I need to to complete the ‘problem’ tasks that feel they have been around for years.  As I’ve recently completed one of these tasks and though I’d share what I learnt. Introduction When Continue Reading …

Welcome

I'm a working mum of two children, and I believe everything benefits from being simpler. Although I'm not as good as I'd like at achieving simplification. I often get caught up on writing lists or planning the most efficient method of achieving things instead. Read More…
