Have you been writing your journal for several years? Are you feeling bored with your journal writing? Do you think you could get more from journaling? I feel this way. I’ve written in my journal for close to 30 years. For many years it was off-and-on, but has become a daily habit over the last few years. But, I’m wondering if I’ve fallen into a rut. I always journal just before I go to sleep Continue Reading …
My 2019 Journal
I’m starting 2019 with the journal I was using at the end of 2018. It is a notebook from a supermarket and I love the combination of the colours and words on the cover. However, there is nothing special about the notebook, it is functional rather than pleasurable to use.
My 2nd 2018 journal
It has only taken me a third of the year to start a journal in 2018. As I continued using the undated journal I’d started in August 2017 at the start of the year. My new journal is a change from the Castelli notebooks I’ve used for the last few years. This one is a Flame Tree Notebook* and was a 40th birthday present. The cover pattern is based on Turkish Iznik style stone paste tiles Continue Reading …
My 2018 journal
This is the journal I’m using at the start of 2018 although it isn’t actually a 2018 journal. I started this journal on 30th August 2017 but as I use undated notebooks I’ve just continue last year’s journal. It is a Castelli* notebook, the same as my 2016 and 2017 journals, and was a great gift from a work conference. I like the Castelli notebooks because they have narrow lines and are great for fountain pens Continue Reading …
7 different journals for children
Now my children are writing journals I’ve realised they look for different features to me. So here are the seven different journals for children we’ve discovered. Benefits of children keeping a journal The oldest journal I’ve kept is from when I was 11 or 12, although I know I wrote earlier ones. I don’t know what triggered my initial writing, maybe the popularity of Adrian Mole books. I don’t think you can be too young to Continue Reading …

Diary I am glad I have you – journal extract 10th March 1992
25 years ago I was not in a happy place. And as I mentioned in my previous journal extract I am not completely enjoying reading my 1992 diary. However, at least I can take comfort in the fact I had my diary to write in and clear my head of worries. I believe and hope this must have helped improve what was going on in my head at least at some level. This latest entry starts: I am glad I have Continue Reading …
I write what I feel – journal extract 27th February 1992
Reading my diaries from 25 years ago has not been pleasant recently, due to a severe lack of self-confidence leading to problems with my friends because I was paranoid they didn’t actually like me. It was not a good time for me, and I think has had a lasting impact on my ability to make close friends. I hope I grew out of this period quickly so my entries get more pleasant, but suspect it may have Continue Reading …
My 2017 journal
Most people start their journal on 1st January, but not me this year. I started my 2017 journal on 29th January, but not because I missed the 1st January. As I’m currently using undated notebooks I chose to continue last year’s journal until it was complete because I didn’t like the idea of leaving blank pages. You may notice there is something similar about this year’s journal, it looks a lot like my 2016 journal. Continue Reading …
