Decluttering doesn’t stop until you’ve done the whole house AND stopped bringing unwanted items into the house; otherwise the clutter spreads and returns into the areas you’ve already done so you have to start again. Following my success of decluttering my first room last week, I’ve moved on to room two.
The master bedroom
I think this room will be easier than most because we’ve been fairly strict about what we’ve brought in, although I know there are a few places where random items have started building up. I suspect the main items to focus on will be clothes and shoes.
You can see clothes storage is an issue for us at the moment; we are missing the built in wardrobes from our old house. It is likely we will put in fitted wardrobes, but not before we have the final architect plans and know the size of the room. You can also see some of the features from the care home here – old fire door and large gap above the door.
Starting small
To make sure I review all areas of the room I’m starting at the door and working in a clockwise direction around the room, avoiding all of Ed’s items as he won’t be impressed if I start removing his belongings.
The focus of this week has been about B starting school so decluttering has been a low priority, but I’ve wanted to maintain momentum so I’ve looked at one drawer in my bedside table. I’ve removed several random items to take me over the required five and now have a nice tidy drawer.
If you look closely at today’s photographs you can learn some pertinent facts about me:
- I like to use a teasmade in the morning
- I write two diaries every night
- I wear an eye mask to bed
How do you maintain your decluttering momentum? What key facts would we learn about you if we saw photographs of your bedroom?
Your room looks great (even with the fire door!) well done. Am fascinated by your journaling, how do you find the time? Amazing x
I’m glad you think it looks great because that is the pre declutter room 🙂 Although there probably won’be be much visible improvement when I’ve finished because most items are in drawers.
I always write before bed and it takes 10-20 minutes depending on how long it takes me to think about the day. I write 5 lines in a positives / gratitude journal which is a 5 year diary so I can look back on my positives for the previous year. I also have an A6 page a day diary and sometimes I write a whole page and sometimes I write a few lines depending on time.
