During the last five weeks I’ve used a little and often approach to sort through the contents of this room; I’ve removed lots of items and put away the rest. The focus of declutterday is to remove at least 5 items from the house each week, and that simplicity has really worked for me.
I didn’t post last week because I couldn’t get the pictures of my phone, but I removed several items of children clothing. I’d planned to have rummage boxes at our housewarming party so people could help themselves to anything of interest, however I learnt I should have done that the night before, because I didn’t remember on the day. So in the week I passed on a bag of baby boy clothes to a friend, I put a bag of young girl clothes in the clothes bank, along with the pink shoes. The blue boots went in the bin because they had holes through the toes, and the box went in the recycle.
This week I’ve removed a broken watering can from the kitchen, thrown out a pair of old painting jeans that only came up to my thighs and I’ve put two pairs of shoes in the clothes bank; B has outgrown her boots and my feet appear to be getting wider so I can no longer fit these on. I’ve also removed three cardboard boxes and two light fittings to the garage (my husband’s domain). This room is now ready for alterations to be made; probably into two bedrooms.
Knowing one room is decluttered is a real success for me and I feel very motivated to move on to the next room, our bedroom. What is your biggest decluttering success?
